Mission
Our mission at the John F. Kennedy School, the American School of Queretaro, is to provide the whole individual an opportunity for high quality U.S. type, bilingual education that recognizes individual talents and encourages lifelong learning. This education, which takes place in a safe, respectful environment, will provide the knowledge, skills and values necessary for success and global awareness that transcends the classroom and prepares for the future.
Implementing the Mission
The school actively works to apply the Mission statement across the campus. Below are some of the many ways that the Mission has been incorporated into daily school programs and activities.
To provide the whole individual an opportunity for high quality U.S. type education the school will:
Maintain stability and continuity through adherence to the mission, vision, and school beliefs
Comply with the standards and demonstrate the characteristics expected of sacs accredited overseas schools
Comply with the standards of Mexican educational authorities
Offer a curriculum that prepares students to be successful in the best foreign and national colleges and universities
Provide the facilities and equipment for teachers to implement the established curriculum
Encourage learning-beyond the classroom
Promote a culture of life-long learning
Offer teachers and staff opportunities to grow professionally
Maintain optimal student/teacher ratios in each class
Maintain its well established reputation in the community
Maintain the international prestige of the school
Maintain an atmosphere in which academic achievement is valued
Maintain a level of financing necessary to ensure a solid foundation for the future
To provide a bilingual education that recognizes individual talents and encourages lifelong learning the school will:
Provide a U.S. and Mexican accredited academic program for all students
Provide an International Baccalaureate program for interested students
Maintain a modern library/media center
Respect and foster the traditions and customs of the U.S. and Mexico
Support a strong English language program with native speakers where possible
Give hiring preference to bilingual national teachers
Support the use of English as the language of communication in a natural context
Seek teachers with demonstrated cultural awareness
Maintain athletic exchange programs with other American schools
Provide activities addressing students’ athletic talents and interests
To provide an education that takes place in a safe, respectful environment the school will:
Maintain a twenty-four hour, seven day per week security system
Provide counseling services for student support
Maintain a detailed health plan
Maintain an in-depth safety plan
Provide students with a school-wide character education program addressing values and personal choices
Respect, affirm and defend the dignity and worth of each member of the school community
Foster dialogue where all students are free to express their opinions in an atmosphere of respect, tolerance and acceptance
Foster respect for the rights and opinions of others
To provide the knowledge, skills and values necessary for success and global awareness that transcends the classroom and prepares for the future the school will:
Foster the integration and acceptance of ethnic, racial or religious minorities within our school community
Impart a secular curriculum that respects the ethnic, racial and religious diversity of our student body
Establish, publish, implement and monitor policies and programs that foster universal values
Foster a commitment to care for and preserve our environment
Respect the need for students to understand their responsibilities to others
Develop a culture of service learning and philanthropy
Provide facilities and programs to develop the ability to apply technology to problem solving
Encourage students to assume leadership roles
Encourage school-wide parent participation
