Basketball Jaguar Cup

Sport have always been an important part of school life. At JFK, we have a very long tradition of offering sports and the opportunity to participate in inter-school competitions, especially through ASOMEX and other local leagues.

The benefits of playing sports are often over-looked: it is not just about physical activity, and the desire to win. Sport can lead to a more balanced mental and physical development. It teaches life skills like teamwork, leadership and patience. To play successfully requires discipline and the ability to follow rules. Playing and excelling in sport also teaches the importance of hard work, perseverance, learning from failure, and importance of grasping opportunities. At JFK, we also care considerably about sportsmanship: to play within the spirit of the game and to deal with both winning and losing with grace. It is not difficult to see how sport can help our students develop a stronger identity with our school values of respect, responsibility, and honesty. All of these experiences and habits are also necessary to support our children as they grow and prepare for adult life.

Last weekend we hosted the 4th Jaguar Cup for Basketball. We created this tournament for the students to develop stronger ties to our mascot, the Jaguar, and to feel pride of association with our school by playing host to our own tournament.

This year we had 10 schools participating, 68 teams in all. This has been the most ever as the Jaguar Cup gains the reputation among other schools as an event worth participating in! We joined in with teams from every level of the school. We were also very proud to be visited by the “Libertadores” Queretaro’s own professional basketball team! They joined us on Saturday and showed off their own incredible skills as well joining our own players for photos and autographs!
Congratulations to all our players, and to the players of all visiting teams. We had a great weekend with a wonderful community spirit here at school! Thank you also to the Sports Department for all their hard work planning and managing this event…. Never an easy task!

Extended Essay Boot Camp for Seniors

The library seems to get busier with every passing day. We are excited on the increase in education, and how students are using our space for studying, reading, and doing their homework.

We added a few elements to our decoration that are very popular.

Perhaps the most exciting thing in the last 3 weeks, was organizing and hosting the Extended Essay Boot Camp for Seniors. A lot of teachers were involved in the planning and teaching. Students passed through five 30-minute sessions where different skills were taught so they become successful researchers and receive outstanding scores on their essays.

Come and practice ping-pong this Saturday!

It’s a sport that can be played as singles or doubles. Ping-Pong is an Olympic sport since Seoul 1988. According to a study by NASA, the sport is a very difficult one to perform because of the high speed the ball can reach, 190 km/hr for example. Various studies have demonstrated that practicing this sport you will improve response time, visual and motor coordination, concentration and memory.

If you are 9 or older, we invite you to assist to one of our table tennis courses in the following dates:

-1st and 15th of December ( Saturday)

The appointment is in the JFK Auditorium from 10:00 am-11:30 am.

Requirements: sportswear and a lot of desire to learn and have fun!

Christmas events

Thanksgiving has passed and it certainly reminds us to be thankful for so many things; especially for health, happiness, and love in our lives. It also reminds us that the Christmas season is upon us. Here at JFK, this means many exciting and fun projects.

This week we have the Dress a Child campaign, next week Christmas photos (organized by the Parent Association), and the following week our Christmas concert accompanying the annual Christmas Market. The Christmas concert on December 11 is a school activity so I will expect to see all JFK students there supporting their classmates, enjoying the festivities and entertaining us all. This Christmas season will go by quickly so enjoy all the moments to come.

Middle School

Thanksgiving season

I am proud of the more than 700 Kgs. of rice, beans and sugar that the Middle School students donated during this year's food drive! The student leaders of the National Junior Honors Society, in collaboration with the National Honors Society in High School and the Querétaro Food Bank, successfully organized the annual food drive. Thank you to everyone involved! It warms my heart in this Thanksgiving season to see how our students helped those in need without expecting anything in return.

Speaking of giving thanks, I am so amazed at the volunteerism of Miss Luza and all the parents who got together to wrap toys for children in the Sierra Gorda. You have modeled kindness and service, two qualities that our students are developing within themselves as they grow in social service.

Another thing that warms my heart?....theater! Join us tonight or tomorrow night for laughter and great music in the Middle School play, The School of Rock. These talented actors have spent countless hours rehearsing under the guidance of Miss Gaby Lecuna, our new drama teacher. I hope to see you there!

Voluntary Semester Exams

On December 3-4th, students in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade will be registering for voluntary semester exams.  Students will choose which exams they would like to take.  If students score better on the semester exam than the average of Grading Period 1 and 2, then we will count it for 20% of their overall semester grade.  If students do worse on exams, then we will not count it.  It is our intention of having risk-free semester exams to support student learning this year!

Key December Dates

* December 6th - TOEFL Exam for 10th and 12th Grade
* December 7th - JFK Canvas and Student’s Day, Close of Grading Period 2 for 10th, 11th, and 12th Grade
