Happy New Year to everyone!

I do hope that everyone had an opportunity to enjoy our winter break with families and friends. It is great to have the opportunity to relax a little and get ready for the second half of the school year!
This semester we have a lot of projects underway and also many great activities on the school calendar.
Please keep an eye on your emails and notices from the school, and come and participate whenever we have an event.

Whether you are in 12th grade and planning your first steps to higher education, or in any other grade level: the second semester provides the opportunity to work hard, play hard and be your best with all of the opportunities the school has to offer.

I do hope that for everyone 2019 proves to be a very happy and successful year in which many dreams and plans come to fruition!

Elementary School

Welcome back and Happy New Year 2019!

The new year is a time for reflection on the previous year and setting new goals for the year to come. One important new year resolution for the JFK Elementary School is to decrease the number of reports of stolen items. Last school year 2017-2018, we improved in this area, but sadly before this most recent Christmas vacation, we had a recurrence of incidents. Originally, we had planned to do a campaign against stealing to parallel the ideals of friendship and love around Valentine's Day. However, due to these unfortunate reported events before the vacation, we will be starting the campaign next week. Once the actions to be taken in the campaign are established, I will inform the JFK community so we can all work together to eliminate this problem as much as possible.
To all JFK families, may 2019 be a year filled with love, happiness, and health, and best of luck on achieving your goals/resolutions for the year to come.

Middle School

Welcome back, JFK Middle School!

We have a full calendar of events this month, starting with an internal Mathcounts competition this Saturday, Jan 12th, here at JFK! Our school shows it’s leadership with these types of events, and I want to say thanks to Mr. K in 6th grade for organizing. Good luck to our Mathcounts members!

We also have a Parent Talk next week: Conscious communication. Join us next week, at 8:30 am on January 16th in the elementary Multipurpose Room, as we explore how to communicate effectively with our teens.

Finally, come see how our Middle School students create beauty at the Middle School Concert & Art Show on Friday, January 18th at 9am. You will enjoy original compositions and cover songs from the bands; and see the amazing artistic journey our students have embarked upon with our new program, Teaching for Artistic Behavior. Thanks, Miss Ruth and Mr. Raul, for all your hard work organizing this event!

I wish everyone a successful return from our vacation, and Happy 2019!

High School

New semester, new experiences!

Dear High School Parents,

Coming back to school today after vacation and looking at the fruits of our JFK Canvas Project - beautiful murals and paintings on all our buildings - I’m inspired by this living reminder of what we can achieve when we commit to leading, serving, and creating beauty. I want to thank all students and staff for making the high school space so remarkable!

Everywhere I look, I see creative, positive energy. Student perception of learning surveys administered at the end of first semester indicate students feel learning experiences are meaningful and relevant and take place in a caring and respectful environment. We accomplished our goal of transforming the learning environment first semester, and now the High School team has its eyes on continuing professional development on IB Planning, inquiry-based teaching methods, and criterion-based assessment in the coming semester. I’m also looking forward to seeing what our student organizations will produce through co-responsibility and the unleashing of creativity with design thinking. If the JFK Canvas Project is any indication, I know something special will happen!

I also want to take this time and announce two personnel changes second semester:

Our Vice-Principal - Mr. Kristopher Miller - resigned at the end of first semester due to family health issues back in the United States. We send our best wishes to Kristopher and his family in the new year.
Eduardo Veloz - 11th Grade Physics and 12th Grade Ecology Teacher - will not return second semester. Ms. Kayla McDaniel and Mr. Kevin Connor - our respective Department Heads of Science and Math - will take his classes.

Thank you again for your support this first semester as we began putting our new mission into practice in high school, and I look forward to a great second semester!

Sincerely,

Bob Callahan
