Xtreme Challenge

This 2nd of June,  we will have one of the most challenging competitions at school, filled with motivated runners who will give everything to win. A survival test that requires traversing mud pits, climbing walls, moving stones, carrying logs, climbing ropes, and more.

It is the 5th edition of our famous XTREME CHALLENGE, this year we’ll have a medieval version.

This race consists on  a circuit greater than 1 km. and at least an hour and a half of obstacles, tests, and challenges in which the teams will have to demonstrate several skills to win and face other teams.

Each team at the bases will compete with an oponente to ensure the victory at the end of the race.

The Xtreme Challenge Medieval Race will have three categories in which everybody  from the youngest to the oldest member can participate. The intention is to have a race where all families and friends enjoy an extraordinary day.

The circuit will have our classic mud obstacle, but there is no need to worry because the outdoor showers will leave everyone clean and ready to enjoy the event.
In addition, there will be a rest area where you can have refreshments, sunbathe or relax in the shade of the tent.

Do not miss it, registration will begin on  April 29 through  May 24, check more information click here

JFK Piggy Bank Challenge

Imagine a beautiful plaza where students can picnic with friends and family in shaded areas at recess or after school…a place where parents and MS/HS students have free access to charging stations for their devices and a strong wifi signal…a place where children play safely in natural green spaces. This is the vision for the JFK annual fundraising campaign of “La Plaza de Banderas.” The following could be chosen by each classroom as fundraising activities for the Piggy Bank Challenge in order to
fundraise for this project which will benefit all JFK Jaguars (please note this is a voluntary participation for all JFK students and families):

1. Does your class have a great idea to raise money? Each classroom will be assigned a day to fundraise at recess time.
Here are some possibilities (cupcakes, cookies, popcorn, bracelets, churros, cotton candy, pizza, etc.). Or the classroom could choose to have a Raffle (family donates an item, and class sells tickets to raffle it off).

2. Would your mom or dad like to spend a recess at JFK doing a fun activity? Recess time parent led “fun” projects (e.g. braid hair, dye hair, make keychains, make ecologically friendly slime, etc.). Parents can volunteer to join us and do this fun activity with students who would pay a fee for the “taller.” (workshop).

3. You don’t want to wear the uniform for Flag Ceremony or PE class? During this campaign, if you donate $20 pesos to your classroom Piggy, you can wear what you choose (just don’t forget your tennis shoes).

4. Do you want to help out at home? Helping out at home checklist (with suggested fees for parents’ consideration). For one week, I will…

---take care of pets (e.g. walk the dog, clean the litter box, etc.) $25
---wash the dishes after lunch or dinner $25
---clean my room $25
---eat nutritious desserts (e.g. fruit instead of candy, chocolate, or ice cream) $25

Other ideas: wash the car, do the laundry, babysit little brother, etc.

Coffee Talk: Living Inquiry

Parents met on Monday to begin an inquiry into sugar to learn more about how they can take care of their own health and that of their family. They started their journey embracing the essential elements of PYP in an inquiry unit parallel to how their children are learning in preschool and elementary school with the implementation of the PYP.

Their reflections included, " Me gustó la dinámica y me pareció MUY interesante!"
"Siento que el aprendizaje es más permanente... se razona a fondo sobre el tema."
"Me gustó trabajar así porque hay más información y diferentes puntos de vista."

It's not too late, you can still join us next Monday 13 at 8 am in the ES SUM where we will be going deeper and learning more about how to know how to support my family in making good dietary choices.

Join us!

Middle School

JFK Piggy Bank Challenge

Hello Middle School Community,

Our students have been learning about fundraising to help with their Social Service efforts, and now it’s time to put some of that theory into practice. This month, every Thursday at lunch our students will host the “JFK Piggy Bank Challenge” event, Sweets & Snacks.

Students from each group will bring delicious snacks to sell, and all of the proceeds will go towards redesigning the Plaza de las Banderas at the front of the school. The group with the most fundraising in this month will have the honor of sharing their ideas for the space with the school’s infrastructure committee.

Students will prepare esquites, dorilocos, cakes, cookies, and cupcakes and other delicacies at home, and sell them at a fundraising cost in order to foment more enthusiasm and support for our school’s open spaces. Thanks to all the teachers for the planning and supervision of this event, and to our Parents’ Association for helping to spread the word. Good luck in the Piggy Bank Challenge, Middle School!

Discover the extraordinary in you

I’m very excited to announce a series of Coffee Talks in the month of May, for parents to discuss the changes to High School next year as a result of our new convenio with UNAM starting in August 2019! Each Coffee Talk will contain a general overview of the new Discover the Extraordinary in You high school program as well as generation-specific information.

11th Grade: Thursday, May 9th from 8:00-9: 15 am in the Flex Room in Elementary
10th Grade: Friday, May 17th from 8:00-10: 00 am in Elementary Multipurpose Room
9th Grade: Wednesday, 22nd from 8:00-9: 30 am in Elementary Multipurpose Room

Before each generation’s parent Coffee Talk, I will also be meeting with students to explain all the exciting changes. It is my goal for students and parents to have meaningful conversations about the Discover the Extraordinary in You model after these presentations as well as to provide a space for parents to have any questions answered by our High School Leadership Team.

I look forward to seeing parents again and sharing all the wonderful plans to lead, serve, and create beauty at JFK!
