‘Our Journey to Achieve the Extraordinary’

This week we launched ‘Our Journey to Achieve the Extraordinary’. This is the next step in our process of fully establish our Mission, Vision and Values that so many in the community helped us to create during the last school year.

The concept is to build a complete School Improvement Plan for the next five years. This plan will help us to ‘embed’ clear procedures and strong educational practices throughout our school.

The process includes a deep consideration of where we are as a school today and the direction we wish to go in for the next ten years or so.

Our Journey includes an analysis of the use of the very latest techniques to understand how students at JFK engage in their learning and how we can work to strengthen this.
It also includes an analysis of surveys that are complete by all students from grades 3-12, all teachers, all staff and all families. Each survey had been created by AdvancED especially for building a school improvement, and permits us to work with both perceptions and experiences at all levels.

Finally, to deepen further our understanding of the school, we have consultants (Strategic Clarity Group) working with focus groups and teams to determine how well we are working to embed best educational practices and other consultants (USC Consultants) working with groups to establish strategic needs and direction for the whole school.

Never before have we undertaken such a complete and determined review of JFK to fully understand where we are and what we need to do to take our school to the next level.

Some of our plans are already coming to fruition, and there will be changes at JFK for the next school year, changes that will, we are sure, keep us as a top educational option for children in Queretaro.

I look forward to sharing our plans as we move forward, and to working with you to develop in more detail those plans over the coming months.

AMANC Kermess- International Cancer Day

Last Friday, February 15th was the International Childhood Cancer Day. Like every year, AMANC recognizes the children with this disease along with their families and doctors with a kermess at the Bicentenario Park. It is a day when they enjoy being kids playing, and spending time with their friends and family, and our school participates with a workshop for them.

This year we brought them cookies to decorate and offered chili apples. Some students, moms, and teachers from JFK attended the kermess and enjoyed spending this morning with them and helping at the workshop. Our stand was a hit and for us and our students it was very inspiring and a learning opportunity to see them even in these hard circumstances reflecting gratefulness and joy, on top of the strength they show every day.
Thank you so much for everyone that had a chance to participate!

AMANC

AMANC is the Queretaro association helping children battle cancer. JFK has been a partner with AMANC for over 15 years. I feel proud of our Student Council and all the students who have brought projects to our attention to support this wonderful cause over the years. Last week on February 15, while we were enjoying Valentine’s Day at the JFK, AMANC was also was celebrating the fighting spirit and positive attitude of children with cancer at the International Childhood Cancer Day in the Parque Bicentenario. Miss Arenys, Miss Luza, volunteer parents, and volunteer JFK students shared delicious tamarindo apples with the children from AMANC and also decorated Valentine’s Day cookies together. The day was a nice break for AMANC children from their regular days. Today as you read this, they continue their struggle to beat cancer.

In the year 2018, thanks to donations and service projects, AMANC supported 290 children! If your family would like to participate as an AMANC sponsor of children with cancer, you can for as little as $200 pesos a month. The charge can be through your credit card, or a direct deposit from your bank account. The donation is tax deductible. Bancomer: 014 30 98 842 or HSBC: 402 9915 055. Also, send all your plastic bottle caps to the Elementary School. We will separate them by colors and give them to AMANC to be sold and recycled. Baile con propósito

Hello Middle School Community,

This past week, we felt so much love and friendship! First, on Valentine's Day the Parents Association brought treats for all the students in an innoventive set-up that we had never seen before. The kids were so excited to choose their treat from a grab-bag, and the donuts, popcorn, caffeine-free frappuccinos, and potato spears were indeed delicious!

Then, last Friday we had such a great time at the Baile con Propósito! Sixth, seventh, and eighth graders came to dance, eat great tacos, and socialize with each other and with robots! Thanks to Miss Lupita for guiding the Student Council to organize the dance and thanks to the Parents Association for helping us make it really special.

This week, the friendship continues. This Friday, February 22nd, we will celebrate Flag Day schoolwide with not only the Mexican flag, but flags that represent all of our students’ 31 other nationalities. Just like flags can communicate so much about our values and beliefs, so can the conversations we have with our children.

National Honor Society Bike-A-Thon

This past weekend, we had two different service experiences I want to highlight as we transition to service learning in High School. On Saturday, we hosted a large training event in our auditorium for UNIDOS, an organization dedicated on supporting inclusion for a range of disabilities in public life. One of our students, Maria Emilia Acosta, works as a leader in the organization, and with the support of our Social Service Coordinator - Ms. Veronica Diaz, we were able to host students from different private schools of Queretaro for sensitivity training. I wanted to thank both Maria Emilia and Ms. Vero for embodying our mission to lead, serve, and create beauty and doing their part to support United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 10: Reducing Inequalities.

“Objetivo: generar inclusión de personas con discapacidad.”

On Sunday, we also hosted our annual National Honor Society Bike-A-Thon to raise money for the Querétaro Food Bank. I would like to thank all NHS and NJHS members for their dedication to serving others. We raised over $35,000 pesos in one morning to support UN Sustainable Development Goal 3: Zero Hunger.

As we look at developing consciousness of service learning, we will be connecting the work our students do by serving others to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the work of people around the world!
