#DontForgetToFeedTheBin

We have such a beautiful campus with so many places to sit and enjoy the weather, the views, happy children running around and good food available to snack on. We really are blessed!

But as the weather gets warmer, flies and wasps get more numerous and we become even more aware of how much trash we leave around campus. How truly sad!
We have now set up some triangular reminders as centerpieces on the tables outside the cafeteria. These reminders have slots to put messages in, and we are using these to remind everyone to clean up their trash. If everyone was respectful enough to pick up their own trash, our campus would be clean, the flies and wasps would go away, and we would all feel happy to come and sit at the tables and chairs we have put all around the campus!

If we can keep our tables clean, we can buy more and have even more places to sit and enjoy the moment. While buying more tables means needing more cleaners to clean up after us, we really are reluctant to get more.

So please, let's work together! We all share this wonderful place, so let us keep it clean so we can all enjoy it!

If people are leaving their trash behind, please report them to their section or the cafeteria staff so that we can work directly with those involved.
In the meantime, if you have ideas or artwork for reminders about keeping the school clean, please share them with Marketing [email protected] and hopefully we can include your artwork on the table centerpieces!

PYP

Our official IB PYP Verification Visit is May 20th and 21st from 7:30-3:00 pm each day. Our visitors, Aldo Anzures and Patricia Cano, on behalf of IB, will be talking with students, parents, teachers, student support services, coordinators and principals about our implementation of PYP as well as observing classes and evidence of our implementation. This is the opportunity that IB has to verify that the application we submitted in the fall of 2018 is accurate and that our commitment to the implementation of the PYP, in K1-5th grade of Elementary School, is ongoing and developing. With so many dedicated community members involved, we are confident that we will have a successful visit as we continue our journey into PYP.

Xtreme Challenge

On the 2nd of June we will have one of the most challenging competitions at school, the 5th edition of our famous XTREME CHALLENGE. This year in its medieval version.

Each team at the bases will compete with an opposing team to ensure the victory at the end of the race.
The circuit will have our classic mud obstacle, but there is no need to worry because the outdoor showers will leave everyone clean and ready to enjoy the event.

In addition, there will be a resting area where you can refresh and eat, sunbathe or relax in the tent shade.
Don’t miss it! Register your team (9 participants) at the entrance of the school from 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

PYP Verification Visit

We are excited to welcome the PYP verification team on May 20th and 21st. This is the beginning of a long process where the whole community has been working together to improve the teaching and learning process. Thank you for all your support throughout the process!

Piggy Bank Challenge

Last week we kicked off the Piggy Bank Challenge which will be taking place all during the month of May! Community members are excited to be a part of the construction of the new plaza in front of the library which will have new playground structures and gathering areas. Please remember to look for ways that you can earn money to support this project. The class that raises the most money will have the privilege of putting their handprints in the new plaza!

VIPs in the JFK
It is the time of the year to celebrate three VIPs in the JFK: our moms, our teachers, and our children. Thank you to all the parents in the Parents Association who made the Children's Day an incredible event, celebrated Mother's Day, and have honored our teachers with your thoughtful details. JFK students, JFK moms, and JFK teachers, you are the best! Congratulations to all of you.

Special reminder about the Piggy Bank Challenge: Remember that your children can participate a lot, a little bit, or not at all. It is a 100% voluntary campaign.

Middle School

JFK Piggy Bank Challenge

Hello Middle School Community,

I want to say congratulations to the students who competed in the Olimpiada de Lenguaje y Comunicación, and represented our school proudly with a 2nd Place recognition! From Middle School, Victoria Bloda, Paola Sowicz, Max Weinstein, and Ana Janet along with their 9th grade classmates, competed against talented students from all over Queretaro in the areas of debate, and argumentation, as well as writing skills and grammar. A special thanks to Miss Maribel and Prof. Angel for helping to prepare our students.

We have begun our Piggy Bank Challenge with great success! Remember that these efforts will contribute to the redesign and renovation of our Plaza de las Banderas and the space in front of our Library Media Center. We will continue to have Thursday lunchtime snack sales to boost fundraising throughout the month of May. We kicked it off last week with cakes, cookies, chips, candies, juice, and some delicious caffeine-free frappes and jicama-on-a-stick. Great job, students! Our next one is on Thursday, May 16th.

In honor of Teachers’ Day on Wednesday, there will be no classes. This is a great moment for all of us to take a time to thank our teachers for impact they have on our lives. I am so grateful to work with teachers here in the MYP who do so much with their planning, evaluating, volunteering, coaching, mentoring, setting limits, telling jokes, playing games, modeling behavior, smiling daily, and much, much more!

Finally, our Student Council and Parent’s Association are celebrating Student’s Day this Friday, May 17th, at our Middle School Dance! There is no cost to enter, and we will have tacos, sweets, great music, and games to enjoy, starting at 7pm. Dress code is semi-formal to casual, and the theme is “Circus.” See you there! Thanks to the Parents’ Association, and Miss Lupita and the Student Council for giving us this great event.

Have a wonderful week!

High School

Discover the extraordinary in you

I’m very excited to announce a series of Coffee Talks in the month of May for parents to discuss the changes to High School next year as a result of our new convenio with UNAM starting in August 2019! Each Coffee Talk will contain a general overview of the new Discover the Extraordinary in You High School program as well as generation-specific information.

10th Grade: Friday, May 17th from 8:00-10:00 in Elementary Multipurpose Room
9th Grade: Wednesday, 22nd from 8:00-9:30 in Elementary Multipurpose Room

Before each generation’s parent Coffee Talk, I will also be meeting with students to explain all the exciting changes. It is my goal for students and parents to have meaningful conversations about the Discover the Extraordinary in You model after these presentations as well as provide a space for parents to have any questions answered by our High School Leadership Team.

I look forward to seeing parents again and sharing all the wonderful plans to lead, serve, and create beauty at JFK!
