Our Jaguar

As we all know, the Jaguar has been the school mascot since very early on in the school’s history. The word ‘mascot’ comes from a French word meaning ‘lucky charm’ and our Jaguar has brought luck to our sports teams over the years.
Many school mascots have a much bigger role in school than just to be associated with the school sports teams. Recently our jaguar has been getting involved in more events and with a closer association to us all in the community. We often call ourselves ‘Jaguars’ for example!
We had some complications with our first jaguar model that we were selling in the Jaguar Shop. After selling the complete first consignment, we were unable to get more produced and many students were still asking for them. However, we have now overcome this problem with a new model; like a ‘teddy bear’ with a fresh design and colors that we can now reproduce to sell for many years to come. It comes in different sizes, some with a built in ‘roar’, and all with ‘baby safe’ eyes and a cute smile.

At Jaguar Day tomorrow we will be having a special moment, introducing our new Jaguar to the students. But no wonder it is nervous, it doesn’t even have a name! So, like with our pets, we need to find a good name, one to make it proud. We will be announcing a competition for all the students to name our Jaguar, a name to be used for many years to come. Once we have a name then we can slowly bring it to life…. building a character for him to act learning moments for younger students, to be formed in to a cartoon character to give health advice and guidance about school values and about how to be a proud JFK student. The Sports teams will be taking our Jaguar to tournaments with them, and the Jaguar will be issued a special passport to collect memories of all its trips and those teams, and each section will also have their own jaguar to use in school events, trips and as they wish. And of course, we hope that we all have one in a special place in our homes!

Our Jaguar helps build a school identity, a sense of unity and pride. With the help of everyone, we can now really bring our Jaguar to life and make it a very special part of our school life!
