  • Parent-Teacher Conferences. Please be sure to sign up for a parent/teacher conference. We will begin conferences on November 19th. We are scheduling over 240 meetings in 8 days, so please help us by arriving punctually and avoiding rescheduling.
  • Student Council. Here at JFK, we believe in forming students to lead, serve and create beauty. With that in mind, the K3 student council discussed ways that our school can take care of the environment. They decided to start a Bug Protectors team for recess so that they could remind other students to respect insects. Next week, they will meet to reflect on the effectiveness of their plan.

  • It is anti-bullying week. Everyday is anti-bullying at JFK, but this week highlights our shared efforts. Though bullying exists in all of society and all schools, we are proud to have fewer cases of bullying reported and fewer bullying cases confirmed than worldwide averages. Still, for us, one case is one case too many so we will continue to work hard on this issue.
  • Here is a small list of our ongoing efforts:
*weekly Character Education class through the Second Step Program
*Student Support Services working closely with at risk students
*Students learn empathy, cooperation, and collaboration with teachers in the PYP programme.
*Definition of bullying: bullying is repetitive and there is a very conscious and deliberate intent to hurt another child, and establish power over the child. Bullies actually seek out the victim.
  • Sometimes children may misinterpret teasing, a rough game, or an insensitive comment as bullying. We teach JFK students that while these are inappropriate and unacceptable behaviors which do have logical consequences, they are not bullying.

Middle School
  • It’s anti-bullying week, and 6th graders are exploring the concepts of tolerating differences and avoid exclusion. We don’t all have to be friends, but we should always be friendly.
  • Friday is a Professional Development day for teachers, and the schedule is quite full: teachers will be discussing new strategies a well-managed classroom, analyzing discipline data from the first trimester, and looking for opportunities for more interdisciplinary units of study.
  • It’s the beginning of Trimester 2, and students are off to a great start. Remember that we have quite a few days off and vacation time that interrupts this Trimester. Help your child stay on track by planning ahead of time, and protecting the after-school schedule as much as possible.
