Sports have always been an important part of school life. At JFK, we have a very long tradition of offering sports and the opportunity to participate in inter-school competitions, especially through ASOMEX and other local leagues.

The benefits of playing sports are often overlooked: it is not just about physical activity, and the desire to win. Sports can lead to a more balanced mental and physical development. It teaches life skills like teamwork, leadership and patience. To play successfully requires discipline and the ability to follow rules. Playing and excelling in sports also teaches the importance of hard work, perseverance, learning from failure, and the importance of grasping opportunities. At JFK, we also care considerably about sportsmanship: to play within the spirit of the game and to deal with both winning and losing with grace. It is not difficult to see how sport can help our students develop a stronger identity with our school values of respect, responsibility, and honesty. All of these experiences and habits are also necessary to support our children as they grow and prepare for adult life.

Last weekend we hosted the 5th Jaguar Cup for Basketball. We created this tournament for the students to develop stronger ties to our mascot, the Jaguar, and to feel pride of association with our school by playing host to our own tournament.

This year we had 8 schools and clubs participating and 26 teams in total. This tournament continues to be popular both at school and with other schools as an event worth participating in!

Congratulations to all our players, and to the players of all visiting teams. We had a great weekend with a wonderful community spirit here at school! Thank you also to the Sports Department for all their hard work planning and managing this event…. Never an easy task!
