Our Model of Education reminds us that our first belief about learning at JFK is that our students can excel inside a safe, innovative, and collaborative school culture.
Such beliefs are easy to write down, but much more complex to build on a daily basis within a school of our size. Much of our work to provide a safe school culture goes far deeper than physical security and is managed by our Student Support Services team. This year, as part of our review of the school structure, we aligned Student Support Services vertically. That is to say, instead of the psychologists in each section working only in their section and for their principal, we joined them together as a school-wide single team, under the guidance of their coordinator Clarisa Montes de Oca, a trained and professional psychologist. This alignment helps all of the team work together, gaining experience from each other, sharing best practices and helping us to build our ‘One School’ instead of 4 independent sections. Collaboration and team work is definitely the way forward!

The Student Support Services team focuses mainly on supporting students who are experiencing academic, social, emotional, and/or physical difficulties that may have a temporary or permanent effect on their learning. The team offers various age-appropriate programs and services in all sections of the school, and work daily to provide students, staff and parents guidance for a whole range of situations and concerns they face both on and off campus.
As well as working directly with students and staff, some other common activities include offering workshops for staff and students on topics of interest and their work has been instrumental in helping Clarisa establish our successful program of parenting conferences called ‘Parent Talks’, receiving an average attendance of about 100 parents per talk!

In High School, through College and Career Counselling programs, dedicated staff also offer guidance and support in order to prepare students for post-secondary education in Mexico and abroad. Our College and Career Counseling programs assist students with their decision making process and the preparation of necessary documentation. We organize events and conferences to inform students and parents about the college admissions process both locally and internationally. This includes both the annual College Fair (with an average of 100 universities from around the country and the world attending!) and maintaining collaborative relationships with numerous national and international colleges and universities.

With so many professionally qualified experts available in our team, working closely with our students, the JFK is able to provide support to all those who need it. In this way we aim to identify a great many of the issues that could so easily escalate to a far more serious or tragic level, and help not only individual families and students, but also to give our school a safe learning environment.

  • This year, the school will be hosting an International Fair to promote international mindedness within the school community. The fair will coincide with Flag Day on February 24th.

  • This event will provide an opportunity for families to share information about their home countries and cultures in collaboration with other families. Each group will design an interactive booth that may include such things as flags, maps, and displays of landmarks, currency, and other interesting information. The objective is educational and classes will rotate through the booths.

  • The booth for Mexico will be designed by the Parent Association from each section. To organize the booths, we will have an introductory meeting on January 16th from 8:00-9:00 am in the Middle School Multipurpose Room. (Please note, the previous email stated the meeting would be in the Middle School Multipurpose Room. The location has changed and it will be held in the Elementary School Multipurpose Room.) If you or your child identify as a nationality other than Mexican, or if you are a part of the delegation chosen to represent Mexico by the Parent Association, you are invited to attend. The purpose of this meeting is to share additional information about the fair and gauge interest in participation. We currently have 35 countries represented at JFK and we would like to have as many as possible involved.

  • If you have any further questions or if you are unable to attend the meeting please reach out to Jessica Woll at [email protected].

  • This week it’s all about friendship in the JFK Elementary School:

    • Monday: we delivered much needed products like soap, napkins, and rice to our friends at AMANC who each day help children in their battle against cancer.
    • We want to thank all the JFK community that contributed to this good cause and especially, to the Parents Association for all their valuable support.
    • Thursday and Friday: Student Council is organizing a recess Friendship Day sale with all benefits going to AMANC. Children may bring money these days to buy pizza or Friendship Day cookies for a special friend or family member.
    • All week long teachers and staff will be reminding students of the importance of love and friendship.

  • Happy Valentine’s Day to all JFK students, families, and teachers. Enjoy the love and blessings of your families and friends.

Middle School
  • Congratulations to all the Model UN students for participating in Colegio Fontanar’s event last month and representing JFK. We have several award winners: Manuel Junco and Claire Rimond as Excellent Delegates, and Matilde Cueto and Maxime Bron as Best Delegates. Awesome job, students!

  • February House points will come from the Open Art Contest, the Chess Tournament, and the Soccer Tournament. Students, get ready for House Day in March!

  • As you know this week at school we will have assemblies to help students learn of the dangers of inappropriate activity online. We also believe in giving our young ones the tools they need to make the right decisions, helping them think critically about what they are seeing online. Talk to your child about digital drama, false realities on social media, and self-esteem.
