Dear JFK community,
We are proud to be an in-person school with an excellent academic offering for our students. Our in-person program will follow all local, state and federal health and safety guidelines. Due to the pandemic, however, we are required to offer an online option for our families who choose not to attend in person. This is called the Voluntary Remote Learning (VRL) option. The VRL is based on researching the experience of other schools and has been modified to best fit the needs of JFK students.
The primary reason for choosing VRL over in-person school are for health precautions. It is not permitted to register for VRL for family vacations.
Please note that the VRL is not the same program as the DOLP that we offered last year while in quarantine. Students who opt out of in-person school will study under the same academic benchmarks and standards, however the learning experience will be different than for students on campus, and pace of study and materials used will likely be different.
Here is the schedule for our return to in-person learning on campus; if you opt of in -person learning the online schedule will be shared with you.
If your child is taking the online VRL option, it will only be possible to change into the in-person school at certain times during the school year. Similarly, families that choose the in-person option will be locked into that commitment for a predetermined amount of time. The reasons for this are academic and also to protect our students’ emotional well-being after a year of so many rapid changes. We wish to see our students succeed, and they need to have a consistent experience with a grading period in order to show learning.
- Families must opt out of in-person learning by Tuesday, August 24th
- Students will be assigned to an in-person group or a VRL group from August 30- November 3*
You do not need to notify anyone if you are planning to send your child to in-person school on campus. Families with multiple children at JFK are permitted to opt out of in-person learning for some of their children and not all.

Estimada Comunidad JFK,
Estamos orgullosos de ser una escuela con clases presenciales y con una excelente oferta académica para nuestros alumnos. Dicho programa presencial seguirá todas las pautas de salud y seguridad locales, estatales y federales. Sin embargo, debido a la pandemia, estamos obligados a ofrecer una opción de aprendizaje en línea para las familias que decidan no asistir en persona. Esto se denomina opción de Aprendizaje Remoto Voluntario (VRL por su nombre en inglés). El VRL se basa en la investigación de la experiencia de otras escuelas y se ha modificado para adaptarse mejor a las necesidades de los alumnos del JFK.
La razón principal para elegir VRL en lugar de asistir a la escuela son las precauciones de salud. No está permitido registrarse en VRL para tomar vacaciones familiares.
Tenga en cuenta que el VRL no es el mismo programa que el DOLP que ofrecimos el año pasado mientras estábamos en cuarentena. Los alumnos que opten por no asistir a la escuela y tomar clases presenciales estudiarán bajo los mismos puntos de referencia y estándares académicos, sin embargo, la experiencia de aprendizaje será diferente a la de los alumnos que asistan al campus, y el ritmo de estudio y los materiales utilizados probablemente serán diferentes.
Adjuntamos aquí el calendario para nuestro regreso al campus con el aprendizaje presencial. Si usted decide no enviar a sus hijos a la escuela y tener el aprendizaje en linea, los horarios de esta modalidad le estarán enviando posteriormente.
Si su hijo está tomando la opción VRL en línea, solo será posible cambiar a clases presenciales en la escuela en ciertos momentos durante el año escolar. Del mismo modo, las familias que elijan la opción presencial quedarán con este compromiso durante un período de tiempo predeterminado. Las razones de esto son académicas y también para proteger el bienestar emocional de nuestros alumnos después de un año de cambios tan rápidos. Deseamos que todos nuestros alumnos tengan un éxito académico, por lo tanto, necesitan tener una experiencia constante de enseñanza y así demostrar con sus calificaciones el éxito en su aprendizaje.
- Las familias que opten por NO participar en el aprendizaje presencial deberán avisar antes del martes 24 de agosto
- Los alumnos serán asignados a un grupo presencial o a un grupo VRL del 30 de agosto al 3 de noviembre *.
Nota: NO es necesario que notifique a nadie si planea enviar a su hijo a la escuela a las clases presenciales en el campus. Las familias con varios hijos en JFK pueden optar por no participar en el aprendizaje presencial para algunos de sus hijos y no para todos.
