Why is the JFK Bike-a-thon Important?

The JFK Bike-a-thon has been an ongoing tradition that our school is lucky enough to still be a part of, even during this pandemic. Year after year, this event searches to help raise funds for the Food Bank of Queretaro. This institution helps 4,858 institutions, 4,187 communities, 2,331 urban communities, and 1846 rural communities. 28% of them are children, 13% teenagers, 49% adults, and 10% seniors. Specifically, Queretaro’s Food Bank helps improve nutrition in 62 institutions, 58 communities within 13 municipalities in Queretaro, and 143 cases of seniors or people with an illness. The mission of the institution is to rescue food to fight hunger and improve the nutrition of the vulnerable population in Mexico. The National Honors Society from our High School has been the organization is in charge of bringing to us the Bike-a-thon that searches to help the Food Bank.

This year's Bike-a-thon is taking place on March 26th from 8:30 am to 10:30 am. Teachers and High School students will have an hour to do as many laps around our school’s track as possible by walking, running, or riding their bikes to raise funds for the Food Bank; depending on the number of laps they complete within the hour, is the amount of money each student and/or teacher will raise for the Food Bank of Queretaro. This is also a chance for people to be social and covid-safe since the Bike-a-thon will take place outside. Unfortunately, due to this and other covid restrictions, the entire school will be unable to participate physically. Nevertheless, students and teachers are helping a great cause by doing something so simple! If you haven’t signed up or decided to sponsor a participant (in case you can’t physically participate), we encourage you to because you are donating to the Food Bank and giving back to the community with simple, yet impactful actions!
