Putin Bombs Humanitarian Corridors

After a cease-fire and the opening of the humanitarian corridors in Mariupol and Volnovakha was agreed on March 5th by Russia and Ukraine, it was expected for the Ukrainian people to be able to leave the most dangerous zones in this ongoing conflict and be able to escape this crisis. Still, these corridors were suspended shortly after because of alleged Russian bombings to the nearby zones that break the agreements created to allow the people to flee the country. The Ukrainian government blames the Russian government for the failure that the corridors have been so far because it has constantly been interfering with the corridors and the people’s chance at escaping the war. They have since instructed their citizens to leave the corridors and return to the refugees until further notice. On the other hand, Putin has blamed the Ukrainian Nationalists for being the ones interfering with their own people fleeing. Russia assures that the corridors have been open but that they have been receiving fire from the Ukrainian forces, which also prevents the corridors from fulfilling their purpose. It is still uncertain whether the corridors will resume shortly or not, but it is clear that the tensions between both countries are still on the rise.

In this tense political time, there is a lot of uncertainty of what will happen next. Since Russia has not let Ukraine citizens leave to a safer location, it leaves many questions within the world because of the constant back and forth that Russia and Ukraine have. Russia claims that the reason that the citizens cannot escape is because the Ukrainian nationalists interfered with their own people fleeing because of the soldiers firing in the corridors. Although, this is unsure because Ukraine claims that it is Russia who is interfering. In summary, one says something and the other says something else. These back and forths are what keep the world on their toes, not knowing if there will be a World War again because of the treaties not being respected, etc.
