Coffee Talks at SWAS
We are in September and we have already had two coffee talks with our new parents here at SWAS.
It's great when we get together to share and receive information. In our first Coffee Talk, we discussed the SWAS objectives, how the program works and how we work in order to support our students. In this session, we shared information about SWAS schedules, as well as a brief explanation of our report card and the transition process that students begin once they have reached a linguistic level that allows them to integrate into the other classes.
This first session is very important for us in SWAS because we set the foundation for the last longing relationship where parents are welcome and receive the reassurance that we will support their children in their language development without the stress of having to learn the language themselves. At heart, we are the embassy of our school, and it is our priority that parents and students feel safe and know that we are here to support them in this journey.
Because of this, it is our priority to remove the pressure on our families and let them trust our highly experienced team, as well as supporting students transitioning into mainstream classes.
In our second Coffee Talk, we focused on discussing in-depth how we at SWAS document the individual progress of our students and how we share their challenges and achievements through our bimestrial report. We discussed the report card and the significance of the individualized feedback that students receive in order to understand where students are in their language proficiency and how they are moving forward.
This session has been fantastic as parents have also helped each other to answer some questions about our program and our school. I am quite confident that the following session will be as exciting as this.

Estamos en septiembre y ya hemos tenido dos charlas con nuestros nuevos padres aquí en SWAS.
Es genial cuando nos reunimos para compartir y recibir información. En nuestro primer Coffee Talk, discutimos los objetivos de SWAS, cómo funciona el programa y cómo trabajamos para apoyar a nuestros estudiantes. En esta sesión, compartimos información sobre los horarios de SWAS, así como una breve explicación de nuestro reporte de calificaciones y el proceso de transición que comienzan los estudiantes una vez que han alcanzado un nivel lingüístico que les permite integrarse a las otras clases.
Esta primera sesión es muy importante para nosotros en SWAS porque sentamos las bases para una relación duradera con los padres y les damos la bienvenida, así como para proporcionar la seguridad de
que apoyaremos a sus hijos en el desarrollo del idioma sin el estrés de tener que aprender el idioma ellos mismos. De corazón, somos la embajada de nuestro colegio, y es nuestra prioridad que los padres y los estudiantes se sientan seguros y sepan que estamos
aquí para apoyarlos en este viaje. Debido a esto, es nuestra prioridad eliminar la presión sobre
nuestras familias y permitirles confiar en nuestro equipo que tiene mucha experiencia enseñando español e inglés, así como también apoyando a los estudiantes en la transición a las clases regulares.
En nuestra segunda charla, nos enfocamos en discutir a profundidad cómo en SWAS documentamos el
progreso individual de nuestros estudiantes y cómo compartimos sus desafíos y logros a través de
nuestro informe bimestral. Discutimos la boleta de calificaciones y la importancia de los comentarios
individualizados que reciben los estudiantes para comprender dónde se encuentran los estudiantes en
su dominio del idioma y cómo avanzan.
Esta sesión ha sido fantástica ya que los padres también se han ayudado mutuamente a responder algunas preguntas sobre nuestro programa y nuestra escuela. Estoy segura de que la próxima sesión será igual de interesante a esta.
