Fantastic stories from fantastic authors

In our Language and Literature class we had the opportunity to approach Fantastic Literature through
the author Samantha Schweblin. Reading the stories turned our eyes to observe the fantastic within
our daily lives.

By reflecting on “what is fantastic in our life?”, the students found a voice and a style to narrate all
those stories that remain in them as ideas. Thus, throughout the process we were able to find stories
about characters who seem to be invisible to others and whose actions cause certain doubts in the
logic of their daily lives. We also find students who go to a bathroom at school and discover that it is a
portal that transports them home. Or others who found that there was a character who could read the
minds of others but was tired of doing so. Even a world where it was normal to have superpowers and
the supernatural not to have them.

 

Throughout these stories we can read some of the concerns and desires that we can only explore
through literature.

 

Here are two of those stories in the form of drafts and outlines that allowed students to express their
ideas and those possible worlds through their Spanish skills.

En nuestra clase de Lengua y Literatura tuvimos la oportunidad de acercarnos a la Literatura
fantástica a través de la autora Samantha Schweblin. Leer las historias nos volvió la vista a observar
lo fantástico dentro de nuestra cotidianidad.

Al reflexionar sobre “¿qué es lo fantástico en nuestra vida?”, los estudiantes encontraron una voz y
un estilo para narrar todas esas historias que permanecen en ellos como ideas. Así pues, a lo largo
del proceso pudimos encontrar historias sobre personajes que parecen ser invisibles ante otros y que
sus acciones provocan ciertas dudas en la lógica de su cotidianidad. También encontramos
estudiantes que van a un baño en la escuela y descubren que es un portal que los transporta a su
casa. Otros encontraron que había un personaje que podía leer la mente de los demás pero estaba
cansado de hacerlo. Incluso un mundo donde lo normal era tener superpoderes y lo sobrenatural era
no tenerlos.

 

A lo largo de estas historias podemos leer algunas de las inquietudes y deseos que sólo a través de
la literatura podemos explorar.

Aquí están dos de esas historias en forma de borradores y bosquejos que permitieron a los
estudiantes expresar sus ideas y esos mundos posibles a través de sus habilidades en español.
