Miss Cristina Vergara from HS, has been selected as a representative of JFK to be a recipient of the Emma Gutiérrez Leadership Award, awarded annually by ASOMEX (Association of American Schools in Mexico), of which we are a part as an institution.

This award supports women in reaching leadership roles in education, with a $4,000 scholarship for PD training at the PTC in Florida.

Miss Cris, studied Biology with a specialty in Marine Ecology. She later studied for a Master's in Educational Leadership from the University of Framingham and has 12 years of experience as a teacher, 10 of which he has worked at JFK.

“Throughout almost 10 years I have been involved in different significant activities within my role as a teacher, such as the organization of events such as the cleaning of the Querétaro River and the Eco Fair for High School in the hands of the Eco Club.”

Regarding her participation in this call, Cris points out: “I applied because I would like to continue working on significant projects for my community, and I believe that, if I am awarded this scholarship, I will be able to learn where the future of education is going and share it with all members of that community.”

“My greatest achievement in my professional career is undoubtedly accompanying High School students as a mentor when choosing a career in Science. Throughout my studies I had excellent mentors, but they were all men. I was interested in becoming the mentor that I would have liked to have.”

“The women who have had the most impact in my life are those with whom I work every day. I especially want to mention Laura Vázquez, Rossy Cajigas, Laura Davis, Araceli Ponce de León, Karla Guerero, Christine Scharff, Diana Campos, Adriana García, Camille Casses, Alejandra Galindo, Marlene Cruz, Verónica Díaz and Pilar González. All of them are my colleagues at JFK and my role model, they are extremely intelligent women, they make their voices heard and they work hard to leave their mark for the benefit of our students' learning” explains Miss Cristina.
