Updates

Professional Development -- Last Friday, we had our first Professional Development Day for the 2018-2019 school year. This year our monthly Professional Development days will be focused on four areas: Differentiated Technology, IB Alignment, Teaching Strategies and Collaboration, and Data Analysis for Growth. Teachers will have some opportunities throughout the year to select their Professional Development from options that are given, which will allow groups to work between sections. We will also provide an opportunity for teachers and staff to reflect on their Professional Development to solidify and share what they have learned with their colleagues.
October 1 to 5 – photography sessions – Please remember that this week we are having our photography sessions for the yearbook. You can consult the calendar on our web page.

PowerSchool -- Thanks to the dedication of our Technology and Student Records Teams. We have concluded the testing phase and are now ready to begin rolling out this powerful School Information System. As with any new initiative, we know there will be challenges to overcome with the initial implementation, but we have the knowledgeable people and support in place to handle whatever issues may arise. We appreciate the patience that the school community has shown thus far, and we rely on your continued support and patience as we go forward.

Photography sessions for our JFK Yearbook 2018-2019

Dear Parents,

From October 1 to October 5, 2018, we’ll have the photography sessions for our JFK Yearbook, for school year 2018 – 2019.

It is very important for us that all the students arrive on time with their best smile and presentation.

For both, the individual and group photography, please be sure students come dressed in casual (no uniform), preferably using colors with good contrast and harmony with a blue background, for example: yellow, orange, pink, etc.

To see the assigned dates click here. Please note them in your agenda and share them with your children.

You can also find these calendars in our website www.jfk.edu.mx in the HOME section.

Thank you for your support. Together we will achieve excellent pictures that children and adults will love.

For additional information please contact our Communications Department with Mónica Duarte [email protected] phone 218 0075, Ext. 1006.

New rubric scale in report cards
This week we are showing the students how to sign in to PowerSchool and see their homework and grades. Next week we will do the same for parents.  As you will recall from our Back to School meetings, this year the report cards will be on a 1, 2, 3, 4 rubric scale and they will be given in trimesters (November, March, and June). Please see the following graph that explains the scale:

Exceeding Achieving Developing Beginning
Excede Cumple En desarrollo En inicio
4 3 2 1
Almost always Consistently Inconsistently Rarely
Casi siempre Consistentemente Inconsistentemente Rara vez

Jaguar Day

Greeting Middle School parents, staff, teachers, and students!

This week is a busy one, with yearbook photos throughout the week and Jaguar Day on Friday! Jaguar Day is the time when we get together and celebrate our school spirit. When you think of school spirit, what comes to mind? It’s easy to the surface elements: our red, white, and blue uniforms (with just a hint of orange), the big Jaguar and Baby Jaguar mascots, high-energy music and team presentations, the important influence of our athletes of the year, and palpable enthusiasm of the entire school. Our athletes show all of these qualities, with how hard the train and how much effort they put into achieve personal and group goals.

I also see the potential for three deeper elements of school spirit that come from the IB Community Profile: caring, principled, and balanced. Caring athletes help others get back up when they fall, encourage others to set new goals, and are good listeners. Principled athletes respect the rules of the game, the decisions of the officials, and show sportsmanship at all times. Balanced athletes know that the skills they show on the field can --and do-- translate to the classroom, as well as in extracurricular activities.

I hope, when you are watching a game or practicing after school, that you embody these important characteristics. I am so proud to be a Jaguar... and I look forward to a successful year of Jaguar Sports!

 JFK College Fair

On Wednesday, October 10th, we will be hosting our annual JFK College Fair! From 8:00 to 10:00 hrs., 11th and 12th grade students will be choosing from a variety of workshop presentations from different universities before having time to explore and speak with representatives. Our 10th grade students will also have time to explore and get a taste of what universities have to offer later in the day.

Parents are welcome to attend after 12:00 hrs., so our students have time to do some initial exploring on their own. As I will be on the Sierra Gorda trip with 9th grade students, Ms. Monica and Mr. Kristopher will be at the College Fair representing the High School Leadership Team.

Thank you for your support!
