Traffic progress

During last school year we made great progress with the issue of traffic and double-parking around the perimeter of the school and so I wish to mention this again as there are many new families.

We understand and appreciate that with so many children and so many cars, dropping off and collecting our children will never be easy.

We have established transport routes for buses from El Campanario and Juriqulla, and places are available for anyone who wishes to use this service. New routes will be opening as and when there is sufficient interest between families for us to organize the buses.

In the meantime, most of the perimeter of the school, especially along Ave. Sabinos, is a no parking area. There are parking bays but we do wish to support our very patient neighbors and not block their houses and entrances.

The signs that say ‘no parking’ are there for a reason; it is our community who is parking even if for a few minutes in illegal places.

We have had to resort to placing cones along this area once again, to make it even clearer that parking is not permitted and even still parents are spending even time trying to park between the cones, or simply ignoring it all and double parking across the road!

On behalf of our neighbors and all other parents who are polite enough to follow regulations, please can I ask us all to respect each other. Double parking and blocking in other cars only slows down the whole process of leaving the area and creates frustration among us all.

Thank you for helping us keep the area around the school safe for all of us and our children!

Environmental Program

Collecting plastic lids (Permanent Campaign)

With the campaign "Recycling and Helping" of the AMANC association, we have the mission to collect and store all: soft drink, softener, energy drinks, cream, milk, juice, chlorine, and more plastic lids, in order to support the association, who sells them at around $8.40 per 1000 caps or 2100kg.

These caps are gathered by recyclers that give them second use, by transforming them into kitchen utensils, buckets, rugs, toys, among many other items made from recycled materials. With this campaign, we are not only supporting children who depend on this association, we are also contributing towards having a better planet. You can bring the plastic lids to Miss Gaby Garcia’s office in Elementary, or to Miss Luza Arredondo.

Thank you for supporting our permanent campaigns!

Jaguars Day

One of the most important celebrations in our school is the Jaguar Day.
Without a doubt, the Jaguar spirit is in the heart of the students, and it has been present with more strength in this day.
This great party took place last October 5. We renew our Jaguar spirit which remind us that we are strong, agile and tireless to aim our objectives. We begin this sport season with the commitment of doing our best effort and fight for the colors of our school. This is achieved by having in mind that, discipline, respect and team work strengthens us, to work each day on being better athletes and successful people in life. click here to see the photo gallery

Halloween and Day of the Death

Later this month we celebrate the bicultural aspect of JFK with Halloween and Day of the Dead. For Halloween, our Parent’s Association has put together a fun, community event with the haunted house, parade, and lots of fun, collaborative games. A focus will be placed on the Green School aspect of the JFK, also. This event will take place on Wednesday October 31, and it will be a Professional Day for Elementary School teachers (11:30 am dismissal). As part of our Mission statement to create beauty, any violent costumes that do not fit our mission nor our ideals of creativity are prohibited. Children may be asked to remove their costume at the discretion of the ES Principal. We are looking forward to this wonderful and fun community building activity.

Vaccines Week

The Third National Health Week 2018 will take place throughout our country from October 13 to 28 of the current year.
The vaccines that are going to apply during this campaign are the following:

• SRP ( triple viral)
• Vaccine against Human Papiloma Virus for 5th grade girls
• Dosage administration of albendazol (dewormer)

The Health Sector recommends taking your children to your health center to obtain these benefits along with your National Vaccination Card.

Parents, please send your child with their credential on Halloween.

Book Days and the Book Fair will also take place the same week on October 29 and October 30 so we will expect to see all JFK students in attendance during the short week.

Middle School

Events this week

Hello Middle School,

We have so many exciting and helpful events this week.

Our students are well into the rhythm of school now, and most classes have had their first IB assessment. Part of our teamwork with home includes checking your child’s grades. Kareem Cyrus is giving training for parents to learn how to log and see this information and more in PowerSchool. Kareem is offering another session on Wednesday, October 17th at 7 pm, in the second floor of the Library Media Center. Thanks Kareem!

Miss Clarisa is offering a Parent Talk on the 18th at 8:30 am in the Middle School Multipurpose Room. "Te amo, eres mi hijo pero se me agota la paciencia" Come and find out what is to be expected in these very formative years.

Finally, over 500 students and teachers will be coming to our school on Friday, October 19 and Saturday 20 to attend our annual Model UN event. This is our tenth anniversary, and we are excited about the collaboration and learning that will take place!

I send you all my very best wishes in this third week of October!

JFK College Fair

I would like to thank Ms. Monica for an amazing JFK College Fair last week. We received a lot of positive feedback from students, parents, recruiters, and students from other schools attending the event. Thank you teachers for helping Ms. Mónica to supervise university workshops and being flexible with planning, to ensure all students had the time they needed to explore the fair!

9th Grade Trip to the Sierra

We had a special moment on the 9th Grade Trip to the Sierra. As part of the experiential learning experience, 9th grade students perform an act of service at the public school in Concá and with students from the nearby albergue (over 30 students sleep at the albergue during the week since their parents cannot pick them up, as they come from distant communities). The 9th grade generation left such an impression on the Director in Concá, that he wants his own teachers to begin organizing these types of interactive artistic activities. The photo below captures the spirit of our new mission - lead, serve, and create beauty!
