Dear JFK Community,
Up until this past weekend, the number of reported and confirmed cases of influenza amongst our community has been quite low. Thanks to the cooperation and diligent efforts from everyone, we had been able to assure the continued safety of our community and help in reducing the spread of influenza.
However, this past weekend we began receiving a number of reports, and eventually medical confirmations, from a number of parents with students in 1st grade, specifically in group 1C.
The school immediately activates our established protocol in cases like this. The actions that have been implemented include:
•Confirmation of the all cases with written medical notifications
•Communication with the parents in the group through the Parents Association
•Extra filter review applied to students this morning from that group and in first grade
•Deep cleaning of the classrooms from the affected group of students
•Contacted the proper authorities (Secretary of Health and USEBEQ) to advise them of the cases and ask for instructions. The instructions we received were to continue the filtering protocol we have established at the entrance and send home any students or others that have signs of respiratory illness. We were NOT instructed to close any groups or sections of the school.
We will continue with any and all measures to stem any further spread amongst our community. We invite you to continue your cooperation in our campaign and should you detect any respiratory illness in your child, please refrain from sending them to school.
